Nate,
The unit went down and needed a new firmware update??ÿ That must mean that the unit firmware had?ÿ a firmware glitch and would not run and had to be updated.?ÿ Is that correct??ÿ How many times have you had firmware glitches in the LS after it had been released as non-beta?
1st off, Frank, it was a radio firmware problem. Not a problem with the Javad LS.
This is important, because, I've been running this radio firmware for about 2 yrs with the old firmware.
All our discussions about this are speculative.?ÿ This is the first digital radio I've owned, (I've used 5 watt walkie talkies, but those are voice type).
So, it could have had a voltage stutter, that let it foul up. Probably what fixed it was the re-install of firmware. Probably re-installing the old firmware would have fixed it. But, it's only a guess.
I am happy, because the company wanted to get me fixed fast. They walked me through things, and did not leave me down for 2 wks, as my 2 yr waranty is out, and sending it back would have been a big nuisance.
So, phone trouble shoot it, re-install/up-date firmware, and one missed field day, and I'm back in data.
I tend to think most other companies would make it come back to them for repairs.
As far as the rest of it is concerned, if you stay with the USER version, not TESTING or PRE-RELEASE, you will fly pretty smooth.?ÿ
I did have a problem with the LS software about 6 mos ago. I'm pretty sure it was user version. Verify malfunctioned. The company reacted within a day or two, and had a new version.
Overall, I'm happy with my choice.
Javad has:
Their own version of OPUS, that's super. Called DPOS.
All design coords are kept separate from field survey points.
This is very useful. You can clear all design points, and re install the design points, without messing up the survey points.
So far, the co. has took care of me.
But, if you are not interested in a new software design, and structure, and have a heavy production schudule, and cannot take the time to learn, you may be happier with other software, and gps.
Now, if Javad buys Trimble, that could get interesting... 🙂
Pretty weather, eh?
