So I am submitting some recovery data for a couple of benchmarks and would like to submit photos. I guess I am just dense because the mark recovery form in my browser doesn't give an option to upload a photo. I did read the photos submission guidelines and didn't see where to upload or submit the photo, just directions for photo naming.

Am I just supposed to email Deb Brown the images?

These are the links I was using...

Are you using DSWORLD? I've submitted photos recently using that.

No, I just used the recovery form. I will have to look at DSWORLD. Maybe I should have done the whole thing there?

DSWorld is a great tool. In addition to being able to easily upload digital pictures to the NGS database you can also submit the text recovery info as well as hand-held GPS positions for NAVD 88 bench marks that currently have a scaled horizontal positions. Pictures usually get posted to the datasheet within a couple of days and hand-held positions are typically posted by the end of the first week of the month.

I was able to submit the images with DSWORLD.

Now I just wish the photos from my Iphone would hold the geotagged location when I transfer to my laptop so I could enter those as handheld coordinates? 🙂

The GPS position should be included in the EXIF header info. You may be able to view it in windows photo viewer (file info), but I know you can see it using photoshop.

I have experimented with doing screen captures fro the free Theodolite App on my Iphone. I was looking in the App store the other day and noticed that the paid app takes pictures. I am now using this to collect pictures of Benchmarks. It gives the position and direction that you are looking as notes on the picture along with the cross hairs and elevation angle. You can also add a note, such as the Monument name and PID. I use it to document obstructions in-case I want to do mission planning.
