I have an old Leica GX1230 GG GNSS receiver running firmware v8.00 and Meas Engine v 3.055. As far as i have read this combination of firmware should work. However, my GPS and GLONASS Almanacs are stuck at 21.04.97 and 10.03.99 respectively. I left the receiver set up and running for 4 hours hoping they would download to no avail. This is a pretty old receiver which maintenance end was 15.01.10. but does anyone have any advice on getting the almanacs to update?

Based on the post linked below, it looks like you will need to update your measurement engine.

I would reach out to your local dealer to ask if they have any suggestions or contact Leica directly via their support email.

Here is a link to their support page. It looks like?ÿ you have to select your product, then country and state.

I had same issue and was ready to take instrument to dealer.?ÿ Not sure what I did, but I changed some of the parameters and was able to download.?ÿ I should have written the solution down but did not.?ÿ Like you, I followed all the instructions available to no avail.?ÿ Don't give up.

You do need to push the update with a cable vs Bluetooth as I'm sure you are doing.

Hopefully you were able to talk to your local dealer and get this resolved. If not, then try the below steps. If that doesn't work, you might need to bring it to a service center to wipe and reloaded the ME through the service software. if that doesn't work then the ME needs to be replaced.?ÿ

The below steps forces the instrument to initialize and can fix some issues like this.

  1. Main menu
  2. 5 for Config?ÿ
  3. 2 for Satellite Settings?ÿ
  4. Press "Shift"
  5. Press F4 "Init"?ÿ

?ÿ

@michael720 Hello Michael. Sorry to jump on this old thread but it really interests me because I am myself using the Leica 1200 systems.

Did you get to the dealer and get it fixed?

Another alternative that maybe possible is to download Alamanac files from "myworld-portal". I tried it today and on myworld, it says that the Almanac files are updated daily. It has a *.m00 file extension (As of today, July 01, 2023 it has a 4391180a.m00 name).

Now I just don't know how to upload this file into the GX1230GG or the RX1250 controller. So that is a technical question that might be worth asking the GNSS gurus on this site.

@eric-kara Hello Eric Kara. Sorry for jumping on this old thread. Other than the initialization method that you've suggested, there seems to be a daily-updated Almanac file on the MyWorld portal.

Do you think it is possible to upload this directly into the GX1230GG receiver? There seems to be no guide as to how it is done? I have thoroughly read the 1000+ pages of the PDF technical reference guide for the Leica 1200 but there is no indication about this. Thanks a million for your answer.

@gmuunuu

I checked this error code in Leica System1200 service manual and it says: please, retire this device and start to use something slightly more modern;)
