Hello from Ukraine,
As of Sept 24 the following Leica receivers will be inoperational: GX12xx, ATX1230, ATX900 and GRX1200 receivers with measurement engine generation 2 (ME2)
?ÿ
I was wondering if it is still possible to get f/w updates from NovAtel?
?ÿ
Thanks,
Yuriy

Welcome, friend.

I am sorry. ?ÿI just noticed. ?ÿYou??ve been here 11 years. ?ÿI hope you are well.
I have nothing productive or helpful for your question.
Hey Yuriy,
Where did you hear about the EOL for the 1200's.?ÿ I do not see anything related to it on MyWorld.?ÿ I guess I should fire up my remaining 1230GX to see if it is using ME3
I was told the same by Leica representative, ME2 devices are about to stop working. Leica uses own FW. Maybe it is even possible to force load Novatel FW but in general, during loading process there is auth code needed and Novatel is not providing it to boards used in Leica receivers. If these receivers will be inoperable in some way, unfortunately equipment upgrade will be needed. Similar situation was long ago with Leica SR530 devices but users' rage somehow managed to force Leica Geosystems to release FW update that resurrected these recivers. I don't believe it's going to happen nowadays.
I have a pair of 1200's new in 2007. This post prompted me to check and see what firmware, etc. I had loaded, they have been dormant since 2021, but I still keep them for static work and if I need a local base, just haven't had the need in 2022-23.
Good news, I have ME3 and after acquiring lock which took awhile they work fine. I was able to connect to our RTN and get corrections as well as collect data for submittal to OPUS and all was good. So, I can say ME3 with latest firmware which is SmartWorx v9.02 released in June 2015 still works. If there are any 1200's that have ceased to function, they might be ME2 or perhaps even older firmware.
The really good news is my Leica GFU modems still worked which I was shocked about since they are NOT 4GLTE! I was under impression that by now all 3G was kaput!

I'm still using a 1200 base/rover RTK set from 2007 regularly, it's the number two set in the office. GPS/GLO.
While the cables/joiners are worn and base radio has been upgraded from pdl bottle to 1w satel as the original fried itself, the old pdl at rover end still alright. Still getting 2km range which is pretty good for some old tired gear. Just don't push it anywhere near a tree!
