My perception of the whole thing:
Flat Earthers are only trying see how pissed off you'll get at their stupidity. They will even go as far as proving themselves wrong. wasn't there a guy that built a home made rocket?
Hollow Earthers, on the other hand, have a legitimate claim; because you can't prove them wrong.
That made me think of all those old traverses I used to run, calculating the C&R by hand for each distance measurement. I could usually just write down the number for anything short of 10,000' and be within a few hundredths. I suppose I could explain to him where he went wrong,,,,,,,,,but why bother.

I don't know. But I do know some littke kid named Sheldon in Texas got busted by the feds trying to buy uranium from Canada for his home made nuclear reactor. It was on the news several times I think.
I could explain to him where he went wrong
Since curvature is usually a much greater effect than refraction, why was he seriously wrong?
Carefully done with a path of a few miles under stable atmospheric conditions and along still water, why wouldn't it be an approximately correct determination of earth radius?
Yes, refraction would bias the answer. Geoid change would be negligible over that distance most places. Finding still water to get his heights could be difficult (non-flowing canal?)
I'm sure the true believers have an excuse to reject it.
@wildt2 have any comments?
I wonder what female body type Flat Earthers are attracted to....
Neil Degrasse Tyson Confirmed the Earth; being 70% water, virtually all non-carbonated; is therefore, flat...
@dougie the Koreshan cult in Bonita Springs thought we lived inside a sphere and invented huge level type instruments to run up and down Fort Myers Beach trying to prove it. They were pretty crazy even back then!!

This probably explains at least some of it.
It can be benifificial to be humble in the face of intentional ignorance like this. Think about any beliefs you hold that may be seen by others in the same way, and then critically evaluate them to determine whether they are just wishful thinking, reactionary nonsense, or intentional selective hearing.
Edit: "you" as in the royal we, not directed at RADAR in particular.
intentional ignorance
The boss, at the first place I worked, as a surveyor; would say something stupid and look at you out of the corner of his eye, to see if you believed him.
Bras were invented as birth control devices. They were to be worn on the knees and tightly fastened to keep the legs together
