I am about to replace my aging Topcon hiper-lite RTK setup. I read about the Carlson BRX7 and its ability to fix better under canopy when compared with other brands. Is this ability the result of "smarter" processing of available signals, or is it a perceived ability resulting from a reduced expectation of accuracy built into the instrument?

Itƒ??s harder to carry on a conversation, with a jackhammer going in the background. Multi path, environments. Provide this noise. Newer receivers filter out this noise better. And, newer receivers get more satellites, and more signals from those existing satellites. And, some of those signals are stronger too. So, newer receivers in general do better in multi path. And your guess is as good as mine, as to what receiver is going the be the best. One fact remains, in the woods, you are always going to have additional fuzz, of a few hundredths.?ÿ
Newer receivers are going to be better. But what brand is going to be best, is somewhat guesswork.?ÿ
Iƒ??d recommend several demos.?ÿ

I assume you are talking about replacing both your base and rover receiver. If you are, you'll want to get units that track all 4 constellations: GPS, Glonass, Galileo, and Beidou. And make sure it tracks B1,B2, and B3 series of satellites.

You can't make omelettes without eggs.

Yes.... but you can get omelets with cheese.?ÿ
And, you can get them with cheese and brisket.?ÿ
And you can get them with cheese, pepper jack cheese, smoked brisket, onions, green peppers, smoked cheese, and sour cream.?ÿ
Try at least 3 brands.?ÿ
