If you are looking for a Disto A8 model, this looks to be a deal!

When I bought mine a few years ago, I paid $995 from a Leica dealer.

Nice! I paid a G for mine too. But it's paid for itself many times over. A real timesaver when working in bright sun, which for me is about always.

Does the "digital viewfinder" work well?

You know the drill, got the boundary done, got it all drawn up in the field book, now its time to measure up and get out of there.

I have an older disto that works well, but in sunlight, I have a hard time.

Any input on this model would be appreciated.

It works OK. The viewfinder is real low resolution and the display can be hard to see depending on lighting and shadows. You also need to be real steady, quite honestly while a great tool, in bright sunlight, I have been disappointed with the performance of this model. I think ALL Disto's suffer from this though. If you have offsets under 100 feet and even better under 50 feet it is a good tool, over that it is pretty worthless in daytime conditions.

Wow that seems cheap. I have two older DISTOS that I use a lot and I have been looking at the A8 mostly because it has a tilt sensor but also for the ability to aim it with the screen. My oldest DISTO has a sight on the side you can look through which works pretty good if you can get your head up or down to where you have to measure from. I must say that these have been very useful tools over the years I have owned them. I may go for the $400 A8, I wasen't planning on spending any $$ on equipment right now (maybe every the way business is) but sometimes you have to take a deal when you find it.

Thanks for the connection Shelby.

🙂

I have ordered from CPO before, I bought my Bosch hammer drill from them, they seem to be a good online retailer.

While. Agree a steady hand helps, that's true of all lasers. I find the viewfinder with 3 levels of zoom to be incredibly helpful. And I've used mine at distances up to 200 feet without mych trouble. Even the missing distance routines work really well.
