I picked up what was supposed to be a k and e six minute compass the other day. To my surprise it is a one-minute double vernier in decent condition. The style is typical early 1900's. I've looked at every catalog I can find and don't see anything like it listed. Anyone else collect the 'newer' old stuff that might have any info?

Thanks, Tom?ÿ

It's at the office. I have one pic of the vernier. 31 ticks each way with 1/2 degree divisions. Will post a few tomorrow.?ÿ

The closeup shows the vernier, declination adjustment screw, and the bronze pin in place. The scale was designed to set variation, but crafty surveyors quickly realized you could crack tighter directions using the vernier.

@jmcnicholspls I have a 1904 5320. This one is very close to the 5322a. It has forward and back sights, dual level vials, half degree graduations, and a 4 1/2 inch needle. It is a double vernier but reads directly to one minute as opposed to six.

Thanks for the catalog pics. Eventually the right one will come up..

The 1909 had a variation plate, mine does not. I haven't looked at it in a bit but the story and paperwork I got at purchase put it at 1904.

Only so many catalogs out there to be had.?ÿ There is a 1900 that lists the 5320 as having a variation plate.?ÿ No a great scan.
