Hi to all, pretty much my question is self-explanatory. At least I have a clear understanding of how one becomes a surveyor and how to become licensed.
My question is more about a minor technicity: How do I become a repair technicians for total stations and surveying-related instruments. I have asked myself about this because I recently had a faulty Leica TPS1100 a few months back and because there is absolutely no repair shops available in Madagascar and in Africa in general. I decided that it might be beneficial to become a repair technician and be able to perform routine servicing on new and older instruments (calibration, EDM board repair, etc...). I also hope to open a repair/servicing workshop in the locality in the long run.
The only problem is I don't know where to start such an education and it is more embarrassing for me to admit that I know nothing about troubleshooting even though I am an Electrical Engineering student and soon-to-be pursuing double degree in Mechanical Engineering.
You might try to email a company that services a specific brand of equipment and talk with their repair department.
Leica had/has a manufacturing facility in Singapore. ?ÿYou likely need programs and interface connections to diagnose the boards. ?ÿChanging faulty components should not be hard. ?ÿ You need the manuals to calibrate the equipment to specifications. ?ÿFYI I have been a Leica repair facility and they have hundreds of thousands invested in tools plus their proprietary software and firmware. ?ÿLots to bite off and glad to see someone interested especially a m/e engineer
