I was wondering if anyone else was planning on going to the Barb Wire Convention this year? It is a combination between the California Barbed Wire Collectors Associate and the Antique Barbed Wire Society.
It is going to be in Minden NV at The Carson Valley Inn, Thursday April 20th through Saturday 22, 2023. Lots to do around there, if you have not been to Carson City before.
I am kind of excited, I have purchased a pile of historic barb wire catalog books over the years and have a hard time not cutting up the old fences I pass over. I have a hobby of taking pictures of the wire in fences, then trying to figure out where it came from.
I don't think there is a website, so I scanned and attached the announcement. This may be your last opportunity to attend a gathering that does not have a website.
Judging by the rest of my office, the only other person I know who might have similar interests is KentMcM. I honestly have no idea why this does not generate more excitement...
I think @rich-leu may also be a collector. Somebody whose name I recognized at the time some years ago had a display at the historical society, and although I'm not sure, it might have been him.
The subject reminds me of Jobo (Joe) Glidden, who was related to a guy who patented one of the most used patterns for barbed wire.

That sounds like a quote from Sheldon Cooper.
Funny topic, I can attest that there has been more types of barb wire than I could have imagined. Crossing as many fences as I did in my thousands of miles of hiking across the Western United States, I'm now going to peruse this bizarre esoteric and Interesting thing
Thanks for a new idea to chase.
Going to Carson City sounds like fun...........if I can catch a ride out to the Ponderosa to enjoy a Hop Sing-prepared meal while visiting with the entire Cartwright clan.
@bill93 Yes, I do collect barbed wire. If you're referring to the display at the State Historical Society in Iowa City a few years ago, that was indeed my wire. I was working on a transcription of my great grandfather's Civil War diary and happened to overhear a conversation between a couple of historical society staffers. They were taking about barbed wire which was patented by Iowa residents in the mid 1800s. That resulted in one of those, "Pardon me, but I couldn't help overhearing..." conversations which resulted in the display. I've often thought it would be interesting to attend one of the barbed wire conventions. This might be the opportunity I've been waiting for.
There is a lot of history of barbed wire near me in Dekalb Illinois. It's always a grade school field trip to go the the house of the family. I think they are related to Joe Glidden, as there is Annie Glidden road.
Rich's britches
I didn't know this was a thing, I find old cattle fence strung through the woods that has to go back to the 1800s. Its everywhere out here
