Tree identification
This is something that kind of annoys me. A corner tree being misidentified and nobody ever corrects it as though they aren’t sure what the tree is or are afraid to correctly identify the tree for some reason. This tree has been called a Black Oak since at least the 80’s. I could tell you it’s not a Black Oak blindfolded and only by feel. I don’t get it. Why not just correct what kind if tree it is. It’s still the corner. There are even apps to use to identify trees, brush, weeds, grass, mushrooms, rocks. I have an app that I use on trees I’m not sure of. It beats the old way of carrying half a tree with you all day so you can use it to figure out what it is out of your tree ID book.
The app for trees and grass and weeds is called ‘picture this’ there is one called ‘picture mushroom’ and for rocks it’s ‘rock identifier’. Use older folks had to actually learn tree identification by just twigs and leaves and by twigs and bark in the winter. It’s all cool but several good surveyors have found this same tree over the last several decades and never corrected what kind of tree it was. One even put a rebar with cap beside it, which basically ‘pin cushioned’ the corner. Lol just annoying to me. Yeah future surveyors csn still find it but why not just make the simple correction so we don’t walk around looking for a Black Oak when we should be looking for a Red Oak?
