My standard collection (as opposed to stakeout) workflow uses raw data rather than measured coordinates. I run a robot, so a dedicated data collector is required, but I’m curious about the on-board DC applications: do they record raw data, or just coordinates?
Grasshopper needs to test his theorys out in the field.
Having to port and use your equipment thru the bayous of East Texas and Louisiana is recommended to all for considering your equipment needs.
I like the concept of the onboard data collection, I just do not agree with all the button pushing during setup.
Having a remote keyboard in hand to control the onboard device would be my suggestion.
Short of a 6in pipe in concrete for the instrument to set on, I’ve yet to find a tripod that will stand firm against the slightest button touching on TS or the mere hanging of a data collector to the legs.
Back in the 80s we proved that it would move the TS as much as 30sec off of backsite.
The instruments that the wire connected to the top part of the gun were just as bad.

Like you, I collect store raw data vs coordinates. All of the Leica gear I have run, going back to the T2000, has been able to store raw data to the instrument. With the newer systems (SmartWorks and on) you can swap the data card between the instrument and DC. This is really nice when all you are doing from a point is turning angles or working in the brush as a two person crew. With Leica the same programs are available on the instrument as are on the DC.
