I take two consecutive 10 or 15 second shots, rotating 180 between. I consider that one observation. If there is no other check I return under a different constellation and repeat. That has worked for 20 years so I’m going to call it good procedure…
Just like friends don’t let friends scale without truncating, friends should not let friends set controls with poles and bi-pods. If your going to set a gun up on it you might as well set it with a tri-pod.
It is possible to have a VRN or VRS position showing 8-10 satellites, but if you are at that point in the field it is possible due to poor horizon and/or multipath to have only 4-6 on your RTK station. All that possible accuracy is wasted and you have to understand why you are wasting it. Given you have a VRS or VRN if you have saved your observations there is something else you can do and you may think this is crazy but it has proven to be not crazy. Switch to an L1 only solution, you may have 2 – 3 satellites in your data that are only registering L1 and never getting around to find an L2 solution. Since you VRS or VRN gives you short vectors, L1 only is perfectly acceptable, and I have had cases were my L1 only solution was better than L1/L2 even with the same number of satellites.
However since I have yet to see any post processing questions that may be out of your wheelhouse.
