In the early days of GPS (mid 80’s) the times when we had 4 or more satellites was limited, and it was in the daytime in summer and nighttime in winter. Note that nobody knew what GPS was at the time, so often people and police did not believe us when we tried to explain.
I was running a project to bluebook a network for a county in northern Virginia. We had hired an australian fellow with a degree from UNSW (great surveying school down under). Also had a Canadian, and a couple of US guys.
I sent the aussie to occupy an NGS station, about 3 AM. He pulled up, was getting setup when a light came on in the nearby house, and a voice asked what he was doing. He said surveying, and next thing he knew the guy was shooting a shotgun over his head. He jumped in his car, took off down the road, and was soon pulled over by the sheriff. That was his intro to the US gun culture…
@dougie
I would notify the client first and explain the situation and required entry. Have worked on state and federal jobs where the contract specified that client would provide access. What I am suggesting is similar to what these government agencies would do to gain access.
@jack-chiles
Do you have monuments inside your home in Texas?????
The theory behind this is that every property corner is required to locate the lands of at least one other land owner, and at times locating those corners “on” someone elses land is necessity to exercise your property rights.
Having an unwelcome visitor on your property once every few years is a small price to pay to ensure that everyone else can fully enjoy their property, and that you will not be prevented by your neighbor from identifying your own boundaries.
I figured bit was something fancy with the color coordinated and we’ll kept signage. ????
Turned out to be a nice guy; I’m sure the sign was there, just in case…
The job required us to flag the line between him and our client. Our side was thick blackberry; his side was open pasture, 1,320 feet… He let us access the line from his side.
Just another beautiful in the PNW!
I hope everyone has a great day; I know I will!- Posted by: @dougie

You were blessed with blackberry avoidance!!!
????
And, there was a new guy on the crew…
I hope everyone has a great day; I know I will!@dougie
He has no idea how he’s won his lottery…..
Man.
@dougie
Man alive! Some guys have all the luck!
That’s a fact ????
He’s in his late 20’s, always wanted to be a surveyor…
I hope everyone has a great day; I know I will!Makes me want to start a collection of all the “NO TRESPASSING” signs I see around here. I know good metal ones can be purchased at the hardware store but all my Okie brethren seem fond of the hand-made ones. And the only time they really raise an eyebrow on me is if the word trespassing ISN’T misspelled..
@dougie
I’m not jealous but I’m deeply appreciative of his good fortune.
Esp when he gets a pass on blackberries from the PNW.
@norman-oklahoma
The no weapons part always makes me laugh….Um, a ball point pen is really lethal when you’re trained to use it so…..
I usually keep those comments to myself, unless I’m with other people who are trained and familiar with unconventional weapons….
😉
It seems like there was a character in some TV show years ago who stated: “My hands are registered as lethal weapons in 41 states.”
I think I remember that movie line ???????
I’ve posted this more than once, and this thread warrants posting it again.
Back on the old forum, someone came up with a hypothesis that the more expensive the No Trespassing sign, the less the danger. The poster came up with this idea after running across an old washing machine in the middle of a woods road with “Keep Out” spray painted on it. He thought that anyone caught trespassing there would surely be in danger, whereas if they spent a lot of money on a sign, the danger would probably be slight.
The kicker there is also scrawled on the side of the old washer is a lil stick figure that says ‘you’ with the bullet holes from the owner applied…. ???
