You do marketing while you still have work. It takes to long to bring in work for traditional marketing.
My suggestion would be to go shake some hands of some realtors, real estate attorneys, loggers and auctioneers. Go to town/county meetings. Get your companies name in front of people that do the kind of work you want to do. It is important that they have a face to go with that business card.

Thanks for the advice! I have been trying to do all of the above while we have had down time.

Ryan,
As stated, the marketing needs to take place before you need the work. In my area of the country, we can not find good field people. I am sure this is true in other areas as well. I would suggest contacting companies with a regional or national presence and see if you can work in a sub-consultant role. You need to find someone who needs surveyors today. In the downturn, we had many surveyors go to Texas. Now, we get several resumes from people in the petroleum industry. Geography is fickle.

Similar thing happened to a company i worked for years ago. the owner started to branch out to Loma / Lomr for fema flood insurance and swpp mapping and inspection. These may be CA things though.

Jim McLaughlin, senior, once said: You know things are really slow when even the clients who have no intention of paying you aren’t ordering surveys.
