My beautiful new partner – Trimble s5 robot
Posted by 350RocketMike on February 23, 2022 at 9:34 pmI worked with her all day. The old Leica has to tag along still in case of unforeseen problems but so far considering it??s my first day with the brand new machine all is going pretty well. Lots of quirks with access that I??m working on figuring out but I love the tsc5 so far. Way lighter than the tsc7 other crews have.

That’s a great hard-working money-earning setup you have there

I expect that you will be happy with it. The case does take up more room in the truck than the Leica but it makes a much better seat!

The only bigggg drawback is the reflector function that the red dot is not visible comparing with the Leica !

Not a problem for me, But I would want the ‘Vision’ option from the S7
But he’s got ‘Active Tracking’, which is simply brilliant

Just had one show up on my front porch Tuesday. Now all I need to do is find reasonably priced office space and staff for a new regional office…the equipment was the easy part.

Nice machine. I remember learning how to do rounds as being an issue for me. It took me a little bit to figure out and then remember where to do it. After that everything was pretty intuitive.
Have fun.

Only Surveyors can fall in love with, and consider inanimate objects as beautiful. ????

Not at all – just look at all the classic car nuts out there

What do you mean? She is animate and has feelings too. Lol

Yeah, I am both. Lol. I have surveyed out of my 84 Oldsmobile before but it??s parked for winter.

Well if you start to entertain idle notions of recreational intercourse with your new “lover” make sure you post it here first, before The National Enquirer. Thanks in advance!

Carrie? Is that you?

Well today is the first time I ever locked onto a taillight despite the active prism. Couldn??t figure out why I had 148m distance error trying to back sight. Never happened with the Leica. It could occasionally get stuck on a window but would never shoot it. Things happen but it??s always so much harder when you??re trying to learn a new software alone and trying to do a 20 point pinning before dark and it??s 5 already. Deep breaths.

They get locked on the reflective strips on your survey vest too. Watch your data closely.

Check your prism settings – you might be using the MT1000 in passive mode.
You want ‘check target id’ turned on for tracking at least.
But yes, it can happen if you have a stationary mirror in just the right place and orientation.

Dittos. Make sure you have your job properties or settings set to Active Track. Otherwise, even if your active prism is turned on your robot is only tracking it in passive mode. Learned this the hard way after first day of use and reviewing the data–it had tracked my vest on one occasion as @kevin-hines noted. Fortunately that was rectified by a simple re-shoot of 4 points the following day, but sheer good fortune that it wasn’t a jackhammer-level mistake.
Also, follow guidance for vertical angle range with the MT1000. Steep shots while active tracking are a no-no. Also learned from experience–fortunately had differential leveling data as QC.

yep, it was in passive mode somehow. I don??t know how it got changed to that. This vehicle was so far away that it couldn??t possibly have happened in active. Also my vest is too dirty to reflect. Lol

@flga-2-2 do not anger the Trimble lady (target locked, ribotic connection completed, round completed changing face WOA SHE CAN CHANGE HER FACE YIKES)
