Not trying to be a smartass here, but what is a “.survey file?”

It’s one of the files from Survey Pro.
Looks to me like someone just dragged the files off off the DC without Extracting the .job/raw first.
If you still have the DC, do that. If you don’t, I think that you’ll need Trimble office software to get the raw from the .survey file.

NOT SURE ON THE .RW5, BUT WE NEED THE .RAW FILE IN OUR PROCESS, SO IN THE DATA COLLECTOR, WE GO FILE>EXPORT- IN THESELECT TYPE OF FILE TO EXPORT WE SELECT SURVEY PRO 4.X (JOB/.RAW) FILE.
NOT EXACTLY YOUR QUESTION, BUT IT MIGHT BE SOMETHING YOU CAN WORK WITH…

NEW SURVEY PRO PROPRIETARY FILE. YOU USED TO GET A .JOB AND A .RAW FILE, NOW THINGS ARE “IMPROVED”

Yes, that’s what it is. But as we both have said, you just need to take the minor extra step and export a .raw file. No big deal, really.

That’s what I was afraid of. A .rw5 or .raw, either one would work. I don’t have access to the data collector. Is there a Trimble converter?
-
I don’t have Trimble Office, or whatever it’s called. I bet someone here does, and convert it for you.

I think the Trimble ascii generator will do the trick http://trl.trimble.com/dscgi/ds.py/Get/File-431584/ASCIIFileGenInstall.exe

Yup, this is what you need.

Doesn’t work. It will extract a .jxl file, which is identical to the .survey file (non ascii). But any other option I choose it says:
Error loading jobXML file (C:..{myjobname.survey})
Error number: -1072896760
Reason: An invalid character was found in text content.I’ve tried several other .survey files and always get this error.
It doesn’t list TDS .raw or .rw5 as options. Thanks for trying! : )

I remember having issues if you didn’t have Trimble Business Center installed also. I apologize I had forgotten about that. If you send to me, I’d be willing to give it a try on my machine.

I have Spectra Precision Survey Office, and I asked our dealer about this very thing at the KAPS conference. He said that it has to be done in the data collector. I wish there was an emulator similar to what Leica used to have for the system 1200 units.

That makes sense. Thanks for the input.

Okay, here’s a link for a similar utility for Spectra Precision http://legacy.spectraprecision.com/survey-pro-downloads.asp?Nav=Collection-71637

Thank you Stephen. That actually reads the file. I don’t know why, but no matter what format I select I can only get the points, no raw data. Maybe this .survey file is no good. It’s not a huge file, we only set 3 pins and located some curb lines. I detest anything trimble.
Thanks again! 🙂

[/QUOTE Like I said, I may be able to convert the file if you send it to me 🙂

Nah, the file is good. I have not figured out how to read the raw data part of the survey file. I believe our vendor is going ot have a Spectra Precision Survey Office class in April or May. I will be there with a list of questions for sure.
I have a data collector sitting on my desk beside me. If the survey file is 5.5.1 or lower, I will be glad to convert it for you. email is jcsurvey at netzero.net

Thanks, Jimmy. I’ve no idea what version this file is. I have the coordinates, just need the raw data. Hope they get it figured out.

I usually export the points into an ascii file. And save the .raw and .job files. I just assumed the .job file only contained the coordinates and the raw data would be in the .raw file.?????
