CFedS course data

I highly recommend that all US Surveyors review the CFedS course.
I took the course in 2009. I spent a couple months of full time study, a worthwhile effort.a couple months ago I made a comment somewhere here that I would send my full course package out for the cost of postage.
I sent just out the original printed material and the digital data on a portable device to Stephen Johnson.I was not able to find any copyright on any of the documents or in my correspondence with CFedS. I wish to share with anybody and everybody.
IF you want to mail me a USB thumb drive I would be glad to copy the data and return it to you, my direct cost of postage is all I ask.
Just send a Private Message and I will coordinate with you.the files consume 17+ GB of data… so 32GB or larger will be needed.
I did not find the original USB hard drive issued by CFedS but I found the files on my server. this data has not been rearranged, just copied in the original format and directory structure.
The bulk of the course is in a web page format, simply run the file “course_01.html” in a web browser and all of the course work is there…
the sub folder CFedS.2009/documents contains a bunch of pdf files including the whole darn contents of the paper in the binders.
any/most copy shops can print it out for you, but there are about two reams of paper, +/- 1000 pages
over here we pay a bit less than 2 cents a page, printed on three hole paper (for binders), so that would work out to about $20 for you to print it all out.the CFedS.2009/videos are fun if you like videos… kinda like a Power Point slide show with narrative.

The CFedS material is a virtual gold mine of information in my opinion, if perhaps a bit wordy. I believe the study guide hardcopy is a direct transcription of the video lectures, so that would explain some of it.
If I didn’t have my own copy I would jump at this opportunity in a heartbeat…

Actually you should be able to take the CFeds training through DOI Learn. You can take the course and take the quizzes for each section but you don’t get to take the final exam and get “Certified”, but you will least be able to say you took the course. The cost is $140.

we made a quick trip and I got some thumb drives in the mail today. I will copy the data, will bring them to the courier an a day or two.

anybody know if the course has changed since 2009?There must’ve been some changes as the version I received almost two years ago (3.0) is dated January, 2010. They do mention that the restoration of lost corners portion was a third iteration, so that may be at least one of the changes.

Hopefully they did some quality control as many questions were geographically biased.

Sorry about the sarcasm… with all of the excellent history, methodology, case law, and practical information provided in the CFedS training it’s a little incongruous for BLM to be proposing a system for a relatively small portion of AK where NONE of the CFedS training will apply (maybe researching the record is valid)!

Update: over the last couple years I had some more requests, and the thumb drive method is cumbersome.
the files on my server have been copied into a folder on a Mega cloud drive account.
just copy the entire folder to your local machine and open it.
It is Big! 3,964 items, totaling 17.0 GB (17.0 GB on disk) so it will take some time…

==================*It is Not my Mega account, it is owned by a partner. He had the folder uploaded for me.
I am not accustomed to using Mega for sharing outside, Jerry says it works fine.I use the Mega Sync desktop app, it gives the facility of throttling the downloads and uploads so your internet connection is not flooded.
Otherwise all other apps may slow down to intolerable levels.Do let me know if you have any issues with the download or viewing the data.

For those of you who took the test recently… How much of the materials did you print off for the test to have in hard copy form? I thought I’d just print it all, but the transcriptions of the videos are probably 70% of the paper and I’m not sure it’s worthwhile to print/bind what will amount to several reams of paper.

I used the Paper, videos are a time waster for me. Choose your preference.
The paper cost me $100 extra, about what a copy shop would charge to print on three hole. Yep, lots of paper.

I clicked on download links at the top level and they took me to the “Download Mega App” page.
I then drilled down and got several folders as zip files and a bunch of individual files. I think I got everything but Maxtor, whatever that is. It seems to be the one that was holding up the process. sounds like an external drive support software rather than part of the CFEDS materials, true?

I believe it is a windows app to install some crap for the USB hardware.
Kinda funky, I don’t think I ever used it.
I doubt any of the course data is there, but they obviously used the lowest bidder… Best of luck

Tried to download. It gave me 200 of the 3779 files then stopped, told me that I had reached my quota and produced a pop up to sell me a subscription.
I appreciate you making the materials available, Peter, but just wanted to update my CFedS files from 2011(+/-) and don’t want to buy a subscription.
Since I wasn’t able to complete the program when I enrolled back then, I’ve been meaning to re-enroll. Perhaps I’ll just do that.
