It was 9980 members ago that I signed up. Things happened fast in those first few days.
I wonder how many of the first 100 are still around besides you and me?

Thanks Wendell AND Angel, y’all done good! ????
(you might do even better if you would put the damn “donation” button where us grumpy old bastards can see it)

It’s been an amazing ride. There were lots of ups and downs, but we finally honed the machine into something that we can reasonably manage. Part of the honing process involved removing people that never should have been involved in the first place and attempting to simplify the overall process of maintaining, moderating, and hosting. It’s working pretty smoothly these days.
Also, next year will be our 10 year anniversary. Is it just me, or is that incredibly mind-boggling to anyone else?!

Oh Wendell it’s not so mind boggling. I think it’s just a sign that “a good idea” along with some dedication can bear fruit. So thanks for your ideas and dedication.
PS – After a while you get used to years flying past you in the blink of an eye.

In some ways, it seems like it was just yesterday. In other ways, it seems like it’s been an eternity — a LOT has happened in our lives since 2010.
I will likely still be finding a way to keep this place going even when I’m on my dying bed. 🙂

24 of the 102 registrants who have made at least 1000 posts were activated on July 1, 2010 or a bit earlier. Many more signed on for the first time on July 2.
Looking down that list I noted several who are watching from the clouds (or somewhere hotter) and a few others who are no longer allowed to participate.
For the record, quantity does not directly correlate to quality. Many great threads have been started by or greatly improved by those with relatively few posts.

I’m curious, do you make money from this site? Im gonna guess there is some fee based advertising so does this site pay for itself or are you coming out of pocket?
-
It’s a labor of love… No matter how much money he makes, or doesn’t make. Putting up with several thousand surveyors….. Hmmm!

Go to your profile, it’s at the end of the URL

The site does have income from ads. Those cover the hard expenses, most of the time. However, we don’t get paid for the time we spend maintaining, updating, moderating, coding, etc.

Success is going beyond the point of giving up…
Thanks for not giving up on us Wendell!
I hope everyone has a great day; I know I will! -
Hands up anyone who was active on the original Mark Deal incarnation of RPLS.com.

Hands up anyone who was active on the original Mark Deal incarnation of RPLS.com.
Aye. That was a way long time ago it seems. It wasn’t uncommon for me to post something in the wee hours of the AM only to get an immediate response from Mark. My email address back then was either aol.com or peoplepc.com, I really can’t remember…I do remember the dial-up connection however.
Mark retained RPLS.net for Mark Deal & Associates when he sold RPLS.com to POB. Shaun has maintained MDA since then.
