I like the one about not loosing your maps.
One time going to Hilton Head island to spend the weekend with family my detailed hand-written directions blew out of my hand while travelling down a dark back road. Fortunately there wasn't any traffic except me. I slammed on the breaks and walked back. Thank God there it was laying in road in plain sight. I didn't even have a flash-light but, again thank God, it was full-moon night. Talk about a disheartening moment!! I had no other maps of any kind to find my way forward or back home.
That was about 30 years ago and I'm sure it's different now, but back then there is a stretch of road that is reminiscent of a Louisiana backwoods bayou. That's right where I lost my directions.
After that, I made sure to memorize directions before taking off for another adventure. That was probably about the same time I signed up AAA and they are happy to give you all the maps you want.
