4 Dead in the westbound lanes of U.S. 50 at the Stockton Boulevard off-ramp. The driver of a Toyota Prius got on the freeway the wrong way at Harbor Boulevard in West Sacramento (Yolo County) and slammed head on into a Ford Pickup with 3 men inside. The accident occured in the westbound number 1 lane.
Advice I heard years ago is stay out of the number 1 lane at night as much as possible, particularly after midnight because that is the lane the wrong way drunks use.

It only takes one idiot to screw up a hundred lives.

Several years ago I was driving south on I-75, in the right hand lane, topped a hill and saw headlights coming toward me. I IMMEDIATELY slowed down and started to decide which way I was going to dodge. When the car was about 200 yards from me he swerved across the median, hit a car in the northbound lanes and kept going. He was traveling (in my opinion) well over 100 mph. Just a mile or so down the road came two State Patrol cars northbound. I have no idea WHAT he had done or if they even caught him but I was well and truly awake the rest of that trip.
