They're always the property owner's animals so you really can't whack them across the head with a limb, and, for me, I'm not brave enough to grab that lip to handle them. Too much power for my short frame.
Never gave much thought to working around horses in the past till one killed my best friends father.
The man was a Vietnam veteran (seabee) who did his time in that hell hole under bad conditions. Came home, raised a family and ran his own construction/handyman business. He was familiar with horses having lived around them all his life. Was also chief of the local fire department where I had the privilege of serving under him for many years. His orders were followed without question as he knew how to lead men and take care of them.?ÿ
One day while returning home from work he came across a neighbors horse in the middle of the road. While attempting to get him out of the road the horse reared up, ran him over and crushed his skull in the process. First on the scene was his son (my best friend who is a paramedic) who had the terrible task of performing cpr and mouth to mouth on his fathers crushed skull.
Needless to say, I now work around horses differently and trust none of them.
