We are looking at getting the Wii resort console as sort of a family gift.

We have hi speed Internet via cable and are wanting to get the Netflix.

Any thoughts about either of them?

Got Wendell a Wii a few years back. Absolutely LOVE IT!!! We don't play it as much as we use to with everything going on, but it's nice to know it's there when we will have time again. I like the fact that you can buy some of their classic games through the Wii. My favorites being Dr. Mario & the original Sim City.

There is a whole lot more that you can do with the Wii. You can surf the net, check weather, etc..etc.. my daughter can run circles around me in how it all works.

The Netflix thing is neat! I use it quite often to watch movies on. If there is a movie you want to watch but don't see it on the Wii menu, you can go to the Netflix website and see if it is downloadable to the Wii. If it is, you tell Netflix to send the movie to your Wii console. Takes about a minute or less. Cool, huh. 🙂

Go for it! You'll be glad you did.

Yes, we are going for it, has been discussed since the summer and all agree.
We are getting the "resort sport" package for $200.
I want a shooting game with a gun.

I guess you hook it up "in line" ex. cable box to wii, wii to tv?

The package we are getting.

Anything else that we really must have to make this fun to play? Extras?

Thanks

Extra Wiimotes!! Otherwise you'll be fighting over the lone wiimote. I recommend one wiimote for each member of the family that will be playing with the Wii. We also got the $30 charger thing where the wiimotes sit in the charger and re-charge. Otherwise you're going to go through AA batteries like water. You have to take the wiimotes out of the Wii Plus attachment, though, to charge them. Fortuantely the charge lasts for HOURS. I have sat and played Dr. Mario for 8-9 hours and it kept a charge. (I know...addicted!) :-$

The Wii sports does not require the Wii Plus attachment, but Sports Resort does. When we bought the Sports Resort package it came with one Wii Plus attachment, but we soon realized that one just does not cut it so I went out and paid the extra $20 for another Wii Plus attachment. I like the fact that the Wii Plus attachments come with the clear outer skins which make it easy to grip on and play the Sport Resorts games.

My personal favorites? Dog Frisbee & Frisbee Golf. 🙂 Wendell kicks my butt at the chopping game, (and at most of the other games) but I can beat him at Frisbee!!! 😀 :good:

I want to get a shooting game, too. I don't know if there is a Wiimote gun attachment but the regular Wiimote works good in the shooting game on the Wii sports. You get to shoot at cans, balloons, ducks, aliens, each other, etc... It's hilarious when the aliens try to come and steal your Mii!!!

As far as hooking it up...I don't know exactly. Wendell did all that. I've vacuumed up the little Wi-Fi thing a few times and so we had to get another one that he finally made vacuum-upping proof. 😛

To hook it up to the internet, the Wii has WiFi capability.

If you don't have WiFi then you'd probably need something like this to hook to ethernet: http://www.amazon.com/Wii-LAN-Adapter-Nintendo/dp/B0014KM2KG

As for hooking it to your TV, you'd hook it up with a regular RCA-type audio/video cable. Other options supported (you may need to buy a separate adapter) are S-Video and Composite. The Wii doesn't do HDMI.

Check the Bass Pro Shop online site. I was at the local store today and they had a neat hunting game with the Wiimote rifle and a fishing game with the Wiimote fishing rod. Think they were around $40 each. Both looked like a lot of fun.

Kinnect is sometimes getting better reviews

I have read a couple of reviews that like the Kinnect better than the Wii

Just something to think about.

We have the 360 and the WII but I have not tried Kinect. We love the Wii but do Netflix on the 360.

I was gonna suggest the kinect, but sounds like OP already had mind made up on the Wii. We just got the kinect w/ 360 (250 GB). Its pretty cool, got netflix thru it, and running at&t cable thru it, eliminating $7/mo cable box. The kinect system is fun, and I'm not even into vid games.

The Kinect is impressive, though the things that seem off are in that they want you to shell out extra just to connect to online services that otherwise would already be paid for, and that they don't yet come with Blu-Ray players.

If you have a Wii and a Netflix subscription, you can watch "instant view" movies on the Wii. But the selection of movies is not great. They claim to have 17,000 movie on instant view, but I'd guess 16,000 are movies no one wants to see. You can't even get the original Ghostbusters or Gremlins on it, yet.

As for the Wii, I love it. MarioKart is my favorite. You can play it over a WiFi connection against people around the world, or race up to 4 players with 4 remotes. Wii Sports and Sports Resort are also very good.

Having 1,000 good movies would be sweet. I would guess thought that maybe more like 16,950 no one wants to see....

I like MarioKart and sports as well. I especially like the Golf. 6 under par is my best so far.

Cheater. 😛

I'm always looking for new flesh to kick butt in on Wii Dr. Mario. And I believe if you have the Mario Cart game and the ability to play against others out there in Wii world that we could also play against each other. Be warned, though, because Wendell has it mastered and enjoys running people off the road, slamming them with bananas and shells, etc... he has NO MERCY! Not even for his wife. :-S
