...........good-bye to an extra $4 billion in cost over-runs as well.
Tuesday's news about the overrun came from the first official audit of the Port Authority in 31 years.
Back in August 2011, the Port Authority raised the round-trip price for passenger cars using its E-Z Pass system on their bridges and tunnels to $9.50 from $8 during peak hours. If you don't have EZ Pass, it's $12! Back then, the Port Authority announced a plan that originally called for more than doubling tolls at some crossings, and publically stated that the increases were needed in part to pay for redevelopment of the World Trade Center.
AAA sued the Port Authority and in their court filings, the Port now claims that the money is supposedly being slated for "transportation projects" and that no money from the toll increases would be used for the redevelopment of the World Trade Center. This is contrary to statements made by the agency, as well as statements made by the governors of NY and NJ at that time.
And after all, with a $4 billion over-run, who really believes that the toll money won't be used to help cover that expense?
Oh yeah....tolls are going up again in December 2012. No amount has been stated.
Sorry for the hijack.......those tolls are starting to get irritating.:-(

The nearest toll road is 3hrs down interstate from me and it irritates me when I have to got thru there. Last I remembered it was pull thru and chunk $0.75 to $1.50 in to a collector for about every 5 mins of driving.
