Hundreds of thousands of lives are being drastically affected by the Missouri River flooding and probably hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars in damage. People understand flooding after an unusual heavy rain or snow melt, but those floods are usually through and over with in a short period. The Missouri River situation is going to leave homes, towns, and two nuclear power plants under water for several more months. I don't necessarily agree with all of this article, but there is a lot of truth to most of it. The six dams were primarily built for flood control, but when other environmentalist groups began applying pressure to the Corps of Engineers for their own interests, that original thought of flood control somehow became obscured.

"Congress created a committee to advise the Corps on how best to balance these competing priorities. The Missouri River Recovery and Implementation Committee has seventy members. Only four represent interests other than environmentalism. The recommendations of the committee, as one might expect, have been somewhat less than evenhanded."
Those who cannot see (quite literally, due to distance from the problem) love to drive the train.
This is insanity run amok at its worst.
