Unbelievable. I read this yesterday in the VI Daily news.
This is the view from my office window just now. Slightly different angle. I have surveyed many of the lots on the 1776 map. Of interest is that the roads scale about 50 feet wide. Presently, modern surveys (since mid 20th Century) show private property to the face of the curb, and the pavement is about 20 feet wide or less. The few sidewalks in town are privately owned. Where did publicly owned land go? There are no public road layouts in the VI, even on the new Federally funded 4 lane highways on St. Thomas that I have worked on.
