I heard someone talking the other day, and was wondering if it is possible to watch TV from a feed through a DSL connection. I was wondering if any of you tech savy guys or gals have seen or done this.
I have a fairly reliable internet connection, and if I could hook up the existing tv's up to get feeds from the internet, I might be able to do away with the satelite bill.
Thanks in advance,
Jimmy
I have no idea why there are backlinks in this post. I am on a different laptop, but I don't see where there is a way to edit the links. Sorry!
768k DSL is probably not going to work well, 1.5meg download speed probably the bare minimum you'd want for streaming, and even that might be dicey.
Available free channels are pretty limited - CBS and others have some programming online. There's a lot of subscription services though.
What do you mean "existing tv"? What kinds of inputs? How are you going to get the streaming video to it? If it's an HDTV it should have inputs like HDMI - that's the best kind. Going to use a set-top box like Roku? That might be "easy" but might limit the number of choices you have. You could also run a cable from a PC to the TV if your computer has a good video output (like HDMI) that is compatible with your TV. I've done that - set up the TV as a second monitor, and have video default to it full screen.
How about S-Video Gunter?
Can I hookup my TV to the S-Video port on my existing video card and have 2 monitors?
Should be able to...
In terms of quality, I think it's something like this -
RCA connector (worst)
S-Video
Component
VGA (analog computer signal)
DVI (digital signal - better)
HDMI (digital signal - best)
