This one looks good too. Have any of you tried it? We have a 20 LB turkey thawing right now. Gotta go bigger, for the gang. I think that makes cooking time about 3 hrs.

Gonna Need A 20 Gallon Trash Can

We've done that at Scout campouts, 25 # turkey, 30 gallon trash can, wood coals not charcoal and no beer.

Personally I thought the turkey we covered with mud and buried cooked up moister, but you have to know when to dig that baby out, no second chance. If you open up the trash can too soon on your 20 pounder you can always put the trash can back on and reload the charcoal. Once you cook much past an hour you have to be prepared to replentish your charcoal.

Another thing is not to let all those coals on the top of the trashcan go to waste. After you get your turkey started take your favorite turkey accompianament and load it in a dutch oven. Put that over the top coals and they do double duty.

Not 3 hours on a 20 pounder, the larger trash can means more heat coming from all directions, I'ld say give it 2 hours and then check it.

Gonna Need A 20 Gallon Trash Can

I did one last year. I had a hard time getting it uncovered without getting ash on the bird. It was tasty though.

What's wrong with cooking it the old fashion way?
