Just checking in the see how the tornado alley folks made out yesterday, my daughter lives in Lawton OK and was sending me forecast updates yesterday that were concerning. Fortunately, her area was spared of any touchdowns but has had some close calls over the last few years.
Sulphur, OK in the south central part of the state took a major hit.
There were several cases of tornadic rotation called out last night in our region but don't think any dropped to the ground. Mainly, we received heavy rain and hail. Even some major routes are overtopped at this time. A road past one of my farms was closed due to a power pole snapping and the line being low enough to hit vehicles.
I slept right through it all. Meanwhile, my wife was wide awake until 3 a.m. listening to the constant coverage on TV
This is the home of a fellow I did a survey for in Fall 2023.
Glad that you made out OK and I was happy to hear from my daughter this morning. She said that a town about 80 miles from her got hit hard.
WOW!!
That would be Sulphur, OK
There are 81.50 miles from Sulphur to Lawton in west direction and 93 miles (149.67 kilometers) by car, following the OK 7 W and US-77 S route.
Sulphur and Lawton are 2 hours 16 mins far apart, if you drive non-stop
Interesting.
I was visiting my folks during all this in SE Kansas. We spent a couple of evenings in the basement but nothing touched down where they're located. We did get 5+ inches of rain, a couple of the roads washed out a little but overall no real damage.
Grabbed a couple photos of the hail stones and the wash out at the bridge closest to my parents house.
That's a walnut in my hand next to the hail stones.
