We live 40 Miles from Glacier National Park and all too frequently we don't slow down and enjoy this place.... we have visitors from Germany with us for 24 days plus Youngest File was home for a week.....so I took some time off and had some fun.

But, ahem, I, er, learned long ago to eschew such water adventures. I worked at a place that had a small so-called hospital for the 1000-plus employees. My office was near the entrance to the hospital. Monday mornings were entertaining. Far too many people would check in at their work station then head directly to the hospital for various types of medical assistance caused by weekend foolishness. Geezers attempting to play seven softball games in one day of 100 degree heat were regular Monday morning passersby. But, the longest list of losers were fools who had learned the hard way what can happen on simple float trips and hardcore canoeing. After hearing hundreds of stories of the happenings on those water adventures I developed the following saying: Sane people do not canoe.
A local newspaper writer attended a family gathering recently in Texas. He wrote of his misadventure for all to read. One of the key factors was that it was supposed to be a two-hour trip of relatively gentle river conditions. Alcohol was involved. They did not see the people who were to meet them at the normal stopping point, which they had never seen before, so didn't know what it looked like. The end result was a five-hour torture-filled experience with numerous injuries occurring in a section of the river for which none were prepared. I had a nice chat with him a couple of days after reading his story in the newspaper. He had managed to escape serious injury but he was one massive display of peeling skin.
Thanks for sharing the pictures.
I went to college at FVCC in Kalispell, lived up by West Glacier for half of my second year there. That's some of the most beautiful land ever created. It's been almost 6 years since I was there last, can't wait to get back again sometime!

Hope to make it out that way one of these days. What's the point in living somewhere so spectacular if you can't get out and enjoy and share it! After working the last four Saturdays, I'd had enough and called in sick last Friday. Sick of working that is. Grabbed my 8# fly rod and hit the river at the crack of dawn and hooked into silver salmon 'til hurt to raise my arm. Want to say I got it out of my system, but not really. 😀
