My son, the Systems Engneer asked his poor, grey haired Daddy, "What's the difference between a System Engineer and a Civil Engineer?
I flippantly answered, "neither could retrace a BOUNDARY"...
He smiled and said "SE's build WEAPONS...CE's build TARGETS...boundaries be damned"....
Pour me another...
DDSM
I always heard that as Mechanical Engineers and Civil Engineers. The ME's design weapons and the CE's design targets.
Why do Engineers laugh three times when they hear a surveyor tell a boundary joke?
Once when it is told, once when it is explained to them, and once when they understand it!
My favorite engineer joke, slightly modified:
Three engineers and a surveyor were on a back road road shortcut on their way to a conference when the car died.
The surveyor said, "I've been keeping track of where we are. I know exactly where to walk to get help."
The mechanical engineer said, "I can fix it. Let's just open the hood and I'll use my pliers and leatherman tool to adjust whatever is loose."
The electrical engineer replied, "No, I think it's an electrical problem. I'll test some wires with a wet finger and see if I can identify the issue."
The software engineer told them, "Hey, hold on guys. Let's just all get out of the car, get back in, and see if it goes."

A Systems Engineer is multi disciplined and is involved in much more complex activities as opposed to a Civil Engineer. 😎
