I started feeling pretty poorly on Sunday at the start of the Panthers game.
By the end of the day I was in pretty bad shape.
Out in the field Monday was just miserable.
Tuesday Doctor diagnoses diverticulitis.
Still on the skids but better. Rain is helping me rest up.
If you've ever tangled with this beast, you have my sympathy, if not, I hope you never do. It was very important to get to the the Doctor in a timely manner to avoid an intestinal perforation.
Diverticulitis
Do you really buy this is from not enough fiber in your diet?
I'm just starting the research on this abomination, but it kind of makes sense to me.
The problem stems from "stuff" getting caught in little pockets in the intestines and becoming infected. I don't think most high fiber foods stick like that.
When you ask if I "buy" it", it comes across to me that you have a bias towards that idea being not only incorrect, but part of some coordinated untruth.
Am I reading you correctly?
Please share if you have some information.
No flame intended, just asking.
About 10 years ago I had a rodman who had the problem. One weekend while doing some carpentry on his house, he felt a sudden chill and dropped to the floor. A diverticulum had burst. He ended up having emergency surgery that included the installation of a colostomy type box on his torso. A month or two later he had a second surgery to take off the box and reconnect the intestines. He was able to work for a few weeks in between surgeries, but then was out again for awhile after the second surgery. This is a very serious matter. He was told to avoid things like buns with sesame seeds, anything with wheat crumbles, cucumbers and anything else that is small and tough that can get waylaid into a diverticulum and not come back out easily.
Well I guess I mean, the first sentence of the article says "No one knows exactly what causes the sacs, or pouches of diverticulosis to form." Then goes on to say it is probably because not enough fiber in your diet. So I guess my point was, do you think you have been eating enough fiber?

Wow...so sorry to hear this but please...rest and do what the doc says!!!
Wendells grandma had a severe case of this and had surgery a few times...I felt so bad for her; hated seeing her suffer like that. You definitely have my sympathies. :-$

Got it.
I don't specifically hunt down high fiber, but I don't eat a lot of junk food either.
I eat red meat only occasionally, and only in whole forms (no ground or processed meats). I do eat a good bit of fish, chicken and turkey. Pork is a friend as well, just not fried.
I have a salad most days for lunch.
I suppose my diet is probably a bit better than most and I am down to 250 lbs from a high of 275. At 6'4" I can carry that pretty well. Although the BMI folks have me at "obese" I think I cut a pretty good figure. Big boned maybe?
I'll be looking closer into this diet business. As you can imagine, the information is all over the map.
Thanks, I'm getting there!
Hang in there JB. Hope you get better soon!
Oh - and sorry about your Queen City Kitties - Falcons Rule!
Hey JB,
Sorry to here that, hope you recover soon!
We've always had trouble with those dirty basta..., er, birds.
Problem is that they are close enough to come to our home games!
Great game until the wheels came off in the 4th. I have a feeling y'all are going to come to rue that day we signed Cam.
Nice, just started my first bite into my lunch hamburger....right as I started reading your link.

Man-up Gun,
My doc was eating pizza while he gave me a digital exam. Tough old bird.
