San Mateo County, CA, recently converted a section of coastal Highway 1 to a bike/pedestrian trail. (The opening of the Tom Lantos Tunnels allowed the trouble-prone stretch of highway to be bypassed.) If you go to Street View on either Google Earth or Google Maps at the south end of the trail (37°34'21.67"N 122°30'59.84"W), you see that the Street View car is following another Street View car. Don't know why they were both there together.
It follows it all the way to the north end of the trail where it rejoins the new Highway 1 alignment. At that end the imagery switches from one car to the other; suddenly the Street View car you can see is behind instead of in front.
Saw one of those last Friday
It was doing 65 or so down the highway at the time. Out in the middle of the sticks so I doubt they were thinking of doing anything for at least another hour or two.
Saw one of those last Friday
It would shock you some of the middle-of-nowhere projects that I have done that were on a road with Google Street view.
The day that changed the USA
That's less than a mile away from where I was field surveying on SEPTEMBER 11, 2001. A day most of of will never forget where you were. After work I went for a surf session at Steamer Lane to reflect on some of the better things.
