The Kansas City Star newspaper on Sunday had a full page advertisement paid for by Texas Tech University.?ÿ It featured Patrick Mahomes and made the statement that he was the first quarterback from Texas to lead his team to the Super Bowl.?ÿ Next week they should have one declaring him to be the only quarterback from Texas to lead his team to victory in the Super Bowl.

That statistic amazed me.?ÿ There have been 54 Super Bowls.?ÿ I'm not sure exactly how many different quarterbacks have played in those games but it would be something less than 108 as several were there more than once.?ÿ Still, that's a lot of quarterbacks not from Texas before one made it from Texas.?ÿ Texas is famous for its high school and college football teams.?ÿ It is difficult to believe it took this long.

I saw this too, I know he is the first Texas College Quaterback to win a Superbowl,?ÿ but I dont know if any high school quaterbacks from Texas, that went out of State for College has won a Superbowl.

Nevermind I just realized Drew Brees played quarterback in Texas for his High school.

@scott-ellis

Nick Foles who played in the Super Bowl two years ago for Philadelphia attended the same high school in Austin as Drew Brees.

They appear to be the only ones who played Texas high school football other than Mahomes at Whitehouse, TX.

The closest connection to Kansas is that Billy Kilmer who quarterbacked for the Washington Redskins in Superbowl VII was born in Topeka but grew up in California and played for UCLA.

Mark Rypien appears to be the only Canadian-born Super Bowl quarterback though his family moved to the State of Washington when he was three.

From the list above there are 28 different states having at least one of the universities represented by a Super Bowl quarterback.?ÿ There are 49 different schools represented.?ÿ From Alcorn State to Youngstown State, from Augustana to Louisiana-Lafayette.?ÿ Some great schools with great college football reputations seem to be missing though.?ÿ For example, California is represented by Fresno State but not by USC.?ÿ Ohio is represented four times but never by Ohio State.?ÿ A few of the quarterbacks played for two schools in different states so I gave each school credit for half of an appearance.?ÿ For example, Nebraska gets in the count with a half because Vince Ferragamo played for both University of Nebraska and Cal.

@scott-ellis

who knows what the future holds, but sam ehlinger went to westlake too.

baker mayfield went to lake travis, as have a bunch of other former and current D1 guys.

those two schools are the factories around here for future D1/pro athletes.  and they're only about 10 miles apart.
