I have a lot of files that are nearing the end of their life and most people throw them away or some more adventurous types make knives out of them. However you can sharpen a file and put the tooth back on them and there are two ways. One way is to have them machine sharpened which is a time consuming process. The other way is to acid sharpen them.

Has anyone here used muratic acid to extend the life of your files and put some more tooth back on them?

Does it work??ÿ

I haven't done it.?ÿ My main file is 30 years old and still works ok.?ÿ The first long answer here seems like an authoritative summary.?ÿ It says not to use muriatic because of some embrittlement process it causes.

Thanks for the article.?ÿ I will have to give that a try.?ÿ You really have nothing to lose; if the files are old and dull, and it works, you are ahead.

Today's word: swarf.?ÿ I like the sound of that one.
