Has anyone tried this http://www.speedysharp.net/index.htm sharpener? I bought one at a craft show a couple of months ago and I am impressed with how well it works. It puts your hand pretty close to the knife blade so you really have to pay attention to what you're doing....especially when sharpening large knives. I'm not the most skilled knife sharpener in the world but I can get a really good edge with this thing.

I paid $15 at the craft show but I've seen them on Ebay for less than $10.

Hmmm...Wendell and I need a sharpener. Do you know if it sharpens scissors as well? Seems like a real good price for what it is. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

For anything other than a quick touch-up, I never had much talent for being consistent and getting the angles right, so whenever I wanted a really good edge, I'd usually use something like a Lansky setup.

They say that it will sharpen scissors but I haven't tried that yet. When I need to sharpen a pair of scissors I just grab a sheet of sandpaper and cut that a few times....works great.

The Speedy Sharp is only about 5 inches long and the "business end" is only about an inch. One side of it peels the metal from the blade (much like a file) and the other side hones the blade. I have a three bay electric sharpener and I like this little gem better.

Each time I use it, however, I can see how easy it would be to slip and hit the blade with a finger. I may look into one of those cut proof gloves.
