The Wall Street Journal had an article about a sewer smell problem in the flat areas of San Francisco.
The City sewer guy blames the smell on low flow toilets. They don't provide enough water to the system to flush the stuff down to the plant. The City is adding chlorine to combat the smell and also tall stacks to try to get the smell up over our heads on the Embarcadero. Maybe they should just have the vactor truck dump a bunch of plain water down the system at the high point every day.
I guess the toilet comment is sparking controversy in the City.
Just part of San Francisco's charm, Dave. It's always smelled that way as long as I can remember.
Hydrogen Peroxide is injected into 'grinder pump' systems for the reason the sewage goes "septic" and starts to give off gasses in the system itself that are seriously life threatening.
Cheers
