Sauerkraut Stew ?

We finished up a survey and were headed to a nearby mall for lunch and to get some data collector batteries. On the way we past a Polish Deli on a back street, so we pulled in. My associate bought some hunter sausage and I got a container os "Sauerkraut Stew" which I had never had before. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

To me it tasted more like it was made with fresh cooked cabbage rather than sauerkraut, but it was good and it was hot. I found one recipe on the internet but that is not what I tasted yeaterday. I tasted honey and mustard and it lacked potatoes which I would add.

Any culinary help out there?

I just started my first batch of saurkraut which should be ready by this weekend. I think I'll watch your responses. I hope someone out there has a good recipe.

As a kid, we would eat at a east European restaurant that served Polish food along with American fare. I believe the owners were Czech. They also had a good goulash that my grandfather liked.
It was just a blue collar joint .
Their cabbage soup was excellant and I believe that they added a little sauerkraut to it.. It was one of my favorite meals as a kid . They served fresh locally baked Jewish rye bread with it.
They also had great homemade pierogies. potato, cheese and sauerkraut with melted butter and sour cream.
If you ever get get to Wallington or the Athenia section of Clifton there are some very good Polish delis butit sounds like you have one near you now.

Also when you cross the Passaic river on 46E,there is a very good Polish place called the Royal Warsaw that has sauerkraut soup. A year ago, I was there for the repast meal after my mother's funeral. She was buried across the river in Paterson.

Robert ?

Very likely that what I had was cabbage as well as sauerkraut.

I guess I'll have to search the internet for more recipes, however today is not the day with the internet protest in full swing.
