An archery hunter shot a probable record 875 pound black bear in Pike County, PA last week. Turns out this bear had been fed by a few neighbors. From where it was shot it is probable that this is the same bear that walked past me on the last day of the rifle deer season last year. I knew he was big but could not imagine that wieght. But as I think about it it was comparable in size to the 825 pound black bear that is on display at the PA Game Commision headquarters. Last year this bear walked past me at about 20' and did not seem to care that I was there.

The neighbors that fed this bear called him Bozo, but the hunter feels that way now.

I would think the people who intentionally fed him would be the bozos. Isn't that against the law there, or should be?

I don't agree with feeding wild mammals like many residents appeared to do, but I feel sorry for the bear. He was practically domesticated out of ignorance and lost his fear of people which might have helped lead to his demise.

Maybe he was going to a Dunkin Donuts.
On one of my last visits to Northwest Jersey., I was meeting some at a Dunkin' Donuts and a bear wandered out of the woods and hit the dumpster.

Most designated "do not harm" game are collared to prevent hunters from taking them during hunting season.

When humans feed bears, bears start to associate humans with food.

That's not good.
