Why was Corpus Christi named for the Body of Christ.

The city's name means?ÿBody of Christ?ÿin?ÿLatin. The name was given to the settlement and surrounding bay by Spanish explorer?ÿAlonso ?lvarez de Pineda?ÿin 1519, as he discovered the lush semitropical bay on the Catholic?ÿfeast day of Corpus Christi
