I was cobbling together a ham radio antenna lead-in to my office this afternoon, and decided to use a length of 3/4" PVC pipe with a bushing glued to each end to provide some cable protection and rodent/insect control to the hole in the wall. The idea was that I'd glue one bushing onto the pipe, stick the pipe though the hole in the wall from the inside, and use a piece of stiff wire to hold the bushing tight against the inside wall by pulling on the wire from the outside. Then I'd glue the outside bushing into place, first applying some silicone caulk to seal the bushing against the wall.

The only PVC cement I had on hand was some blue "hot" stuff that sets up fast. It's in the mid-90s here today, and I didn't appreciate just *how* fast that stuff sets up. I only had the exterior bushing seated about half way before it stuck tight, and I was working fast. Instead of a thin film of silicone, I ended up with about a 3/8" thick ring of it in order to accomplish a seal.

Yet another lesson learned the hard way...

I have learned that a heavy coat of glue lubricates the fitting better and allows more time to position the joint.
