Has anyone here ever hired a man with a portable sawmill and if so how was his fee structured?

Did he charge by the hour? Likely the case.

How much was he able to cut in a day??ÿ

I do know that you can have custom-sized boards cut and they usually charge by board feet and you need plenty of storage space to store the boards for them to dry.

The bandsaw only cuts about 1/8th of an inch through the wood and the finish is smoother than other methods.

It is not cheap as you would think but it is a great deal when you have your own trees and many will come to your site and others require you to bring cut logs to them.

I know several people that went that way to build their homes from their own trees and they did run many of the boards through a planer to have a smooth uniform thickness that they later stained and had a fully built inside and outside board home.

They cut very fast and it takes two men stacking wood to keep up with the saw and they can change the size setting very quickly.

Charging by the board feet would be a good way to go, thanks for that.
