it was oppressively hot and humid today.

How humid was it ?

Sir Derek,
We, of the Oklahoma Weather Machine Works, regret to inform you that the OWM is indeed working. Our engineers had a slight calibration problem a few weeks ago and are working on replacing part of the defective bits of fairy dust which cause the erroneous temperature fluctuations.

It seems the defective dust cause the F and the C to get interchanged. We had dialed in 41f for your area but in fact it was attempting to create 41c for your area.

We are sorry for the inconvenience. Lawn mower sales go up but the snow beasties fall. Such is the yin and yang of weather.

President
OWM

Now I understand...

Maybe the CME has affected the high latitude calibration as well due to ionospheric scintillations.
