Has anyone here visited the Pipestone National Monument in SW Minnesota?
It is a small park with a gentle trail that winds through the grasslands and then around the base of the red pipestone cliffs and small waterfall.
Inside the vistor center you can watch Native Americans shaping the pipestone and you can by products made out of the stone.
The last time that I was there (May 2009) I took a short side trail and viewed a large boulder that has the initials of Nicollet's July 1838 expedition members initials carved in it, along with his name.
One set of initials belong to John Charles Fremont, who came through Central Oregon in 1843.
If you ever get the chance, the slight detour to Pipestone is well worth it.

Sounds nice, but I thought pipestone was that really long debate we had online a while back!
