Some people develop that trait at an early age while some never do.
An excellent example of perseverance is the fellow who will be making some repairs to my four-wheeler in the next couple of days.?ÿ His life changed in a flash, quite literally, one evening while he was a high school student and a classmate of one of my daughters.?ÿ He was Joe Average.?ÿ He wasn't a top scholar but he was no dummy, either.?ÿ He had no interest in the typical high school sports so was less recognizable to the general student population.?ÿ He went to school, he did his homework as best he could and then took care of chores on the farm at home.
This fellow was an ardent fan of all things involving guns, as was his father.?ÿ In fact, they had built an indoor shooting range and shared it with plenty of local shooters.?ÿ He could hunt, shoot skeet, or simply practice with different types of guns any time he got the urge.?ÿ That fateful evening a neighbor kid who was a few years younger was at his house and they were in his bedroom sort of doing nothing in particular.?ÿ The neighbor kid asked about the black powder pistol that he had heard so much about.?ÿ So, it came out of it's case in the closet.?ÿ He showed the neighbor kid many things about it and then loaded it, to show how that was done.?ÿ Of course, the neighbor kid wanted to hold it.?ÿ That was fine until he accidentally bumped his elbow on a dresser and the gun fired. The shot bounced off the lower end of this fellow's spine as it passed through him.
Walking consists of standing on the left foot while bracing with a cane or crutch and swinging the stiff right leg forward, then rock onto the right foot and swing the left foot forward.?ÿ Slow but effective.?ÿ Kneeling doesn't happen and bending is with great effort.
He operates his own business repairing all sorts of things from lawn mowers to skid steer loaders but mainly ATV's?ÿ He also manufactures some product out of wood that sells bigtime at flea markets and craft sales.?ÿ Meanwhile, he somehow runs cattle almost singlehandedly on the half section of pasture surrounding his home and business.?ÿ He told me today of the situation that came up during the warmup following the extreme cold period we experienced.?ÿ One his cows wandered out onto the ice on a small pond and broke through.?ÿ A few inches of her back and her head was all that was visible.?ÿ He took plenty of rope and one of his skid steer loaders to the pond, somehow made it out to her with the rope, returned from the frigid water, and lifted and pulled with the loader until she was out of the pond.?ÿ Then he led her from the pasture to a garage where he could shut her in for a few days with the furnace roaring to thaw her out.
Perseverance.?ÿ Some people have it, many people don't.
