The Big 10 has decided that Penn State and Nebraska will be new permanent rivals and will close out every year knocking each other out of the BCS. I think the goal is to also weaken PSU or Neb before the Big 10 title game.

Is it because no other Big 10 team wanted the challenge?

Penn State first played Nebraska in 1979. Of the 7 games since Nebraska has won 4.

Along the way to the 400 wins under Paterno Penn State has played in 65 different stadiums against 83 different colleges and over over 79 colleges. The winning list is way to long so I will just post the losing list.

0-1 vs Clemson
0-1 vs Florida
0-2 vs Oklahoma
0-1 vs Toledo
4-9 vs Alabama
6-10 vs Michigan
3-4 vs Nebraska
8-13 vs Ohio State
1-2 vs UCLA
6-7 vs Wisconsin

Overall against all big conference opponents the tally is:

98-15 vs Big East
64-16 vs ACC
15-7 vs Pac 10
17-10 vs Big 12
96-58 vs Big 10
14-15 vs SEC

Not too shabby for an old man.

Like you have said before. It is about money and specifically TV money.
That is a nice match up for a Sat game late in the season.
As for knocking each other out, remember the saying...

I'll disagree. On one hand you talk of the weak schedules of Boise and others and then you say this will knock out both teams. I think if they are both strong then having that game at the end of the year will give the winner a huge boost towards a NC game.

You play a tough schedule then you risk losing some games but the rewards are very high if you are successful in your season.

BTW-I think Penn State has played well the last two weeks and I think they will give Ohio a good solid game. Ohio is probably the best defense that Penn has seen so that will be the key. Can Penn move the ball like they have lately?

I am just so nervous about my Cowboys playing Texas. They have owned us lately but on paper we should blow them out of their home field. I would prefer the press to be quiet on the OSU hoopla until after we prove that we can defeat Texas and OU. In a year with mostly freshman and predicted to finish at the bottom of the Big 12 South division then this has been a most remarkable season.

Weeden,Hunter and Blackmon are a lethal and potent force on offense.

If not for Alabama, Coach Paterno would have a winning record against the SEC!

Yep, Alabama Hurts, Mostly Bear Bryant Though

But Alabama beat Penn State in 1982 and PSU went on to win the National Championship, so it does not hurt as much as losing to Toledo in 2000 or Illinois this year.

My nephew says stepping on to the field at Alabama was totally awesome.

Deral I meant that knockout as an either/or not both. but come to think of it, the battered winner may be at a slight disadvantage in the following Big 10 Championship game.

The Ohio State quarterback, Terrelle Pryor, is from Jeannette, PA. He is the last high school football player that Paterno personally visited to recruit. He chose Ohio State and Joe has no bad words for him.

Joe could probably tell you a story about every athlete he ever recruited. My nephew was a manager on the 1982 Championship Team and spent too much time standing next to Joe. If a player made a mistake Joe yelled at whoever was closest, but the player could hear it to. My brother-in-law did stained glass and got a license to use the PSU Lion logo in lamps and mirrors. They were sold for a few years in the bookstore and Joe has one, but when it got popular and too much work they went to a commercial provider. Joe remembered that my nephew's father was a teacher at Phillipsburg, New Jersey High School and when he came to Phillipsburg to recruit a player he asked about my brother-in-law. They made an announcement on the school intercom that my brother-in-law should come to the office to talk to Joe Paterno. He did not budge from the classroom thinking that the faculty was just razing him for being such a Penn State fan. To remember the parents, now that is a big deal. Elsewehere on this board they are talking similar stories about Bear Bryant. Both are legends, probably never to be equaled.
