It seems columnists and news organizations wanted a media event. Well they got one.
Penn State Trustees did not want a media event, Well they got one.

collective temper tantrum?
IMHO I think Penn State could not have done a worse job handling this situation. The media is just reacting to the story as it continues to evolve.
Penn State is to blame and no one else. There is no defense for their actions and lack of action.
The studesnt are reacting to the death of their fabled university and they do not like it.

Perhaps they should have gone to Penn instead. Leges sine moribus vanae
For a few days now, th PSU mileu has followed the archtype story such as told by Frazier's The Golden Bough, Greek tragedies and Shakespeare of the patriarchal leader.
The figurative beheadading of the 84 year old just follows the ageless storyline.
I hear that Paterno wants to speak to the media.
And that he wants to reiterate that he thought that McQueary had told him that he had witnessed "horseplay" or some sort of "grab ass" between Sandusky and the 10 year old boy in the shower, and never mentioned seeing anal intercourse.
Uh Joe, I'm sorry but even if that was true, it isn't right for a 50 something year old man to be playing "grab ass" with 10 year old boys in the shower. That is not "horseplay", it is inappropriate touching, and you knew that your friend Sandusky had been investigated for that before.
At that point, Joe (and any other Penn State official that knew) has to protect the children by going to the police.
Not only did he fail to do so, but he continued to allow Sandusky to prey on other children.
Again, I am not just picking on Joe here.
I say that ANYBODY (Paterno, McQueary, the two janitors, or any other Penn State employee or official that either witnessed these acts or was subsequently told about them) that had ANY knowledge of Sandusky's inappropriate behavior with children and did not notify the police should be brought up on criminal charges.
But I do point out Joe, because he was in a leadership position.
I hear that Paterno wants to speak to the media.
Barry Switzer commented:
“Having been in this profession a long time and knowing how close coaching staffs are, I knew that this was a secret that was kept secret,” Switzer said. “Everyone on that staff had to have known, the ones that had been around a long time.”
I hear that Paterno wants to speak to the media.
Seems pretty obvious, doesn't it Tim?
The best thing Paterno can do for himself right now is exercise his right to remain silent. Press conferences where he makes excuses and provides testimony to things like "grab-ass" will be used against him.
