Next Sunday our family will be heading to Lincoln City for the week. Toward the end we will work our way down the coast to see family in Brookings.

I would consider stopping in Coos Bay and renting some 4-wheelers for the sand dunes. I think they have a rental place now right on the dunes, but I'm not positive.
There is a great variety of dunes/trails to ride, so a person can have fun putting around on a 4x4 quad or race quad.
Lot's of great trails and plenty of places to pop a wheelie or jump.
There are some great views and you can ride all the way to the beach.
You do have to take an on-line test to get your "sand license".
I only wish that I could make the trip too.
If you have a chance have a look for Thor's Well. But be careful of the surf, it is unforgiving.

I'm in North Bend. Any more specific idea when you will be passing through?
