Out checking and feeding cows with the 11 year old daughter and the dog. ?ÿAs soon as we get to farm I stop and let her take the wheel. While I am getting a gate she decides she wants to play her music and since she has heard it from me a thousand times she is driving so she is in charge of radio. ?ÿWhat does she play. A little ray stevens Mississippi Squirrel. Lol ???? then a little George Straight etc. But just having this time together is priceless. Watching her mature and learn.?ÿ
For those who might not recognize this concept, it's called being a good dad.
@holy-cow well I appreciate that. ?ÿBut man i make mistakes. The first two kids i made even more with. ?ÿNow i have finally learned to fully enjoy the time the little things. I wish the good Lord would have attached special instructions to the toe when they came. Each child is different and all. It??s just not easy sometimes. I just enjoy these moments more and more the older i get. I will make plenty more mistakes I imagine. Just hope the right outweighs the wrong.
When daughter number two was still little I purchased a young steer that happened to be a pretty, white Charolais.?ÿ It was kept in a pen by itself near our house until it was big enough to go to the pasture with the rest of the herd.?ÿ We named him Oscar. Nearly all of the others in the herd were Angus or Angus-Hereford cross.?ÿ On our trips to the field to check on them, young daughter number two would point and say, "There's Oscar."?ÿ To her, any white young bovine was Oscar.?ÿ Eventually, I had a different critter buthchered to go in our freezer.?ÿ As we started the first meal with the new beef, she looked at me and asked, "Is this Oscar?"?ÿ She felt better knowing Oscar was still in the herd.
@holy-cow ???? Yes that??s it right there. My 11 year has picked a calf out and has it narrowed down to a bull calf and heifer calf. ?ÿSaid she wants to show it. I said well you watch and you pick. But the youngest sister sais thats the one I wanted lol. I have one going soon to the freezer. And i get the looks about it. But they know it was planned all along. It??s good for them. Seeing them have fun and messing with the cows. They have their favorites. One momma cow the girls have her so tame she gets in the way more than not. But i love it deep down. The girls love rubbing on them and such. I wish i knew more about showing as they seem to want to do that. I guess we will all learn together.
