Which is better for long reading sessions, Kindle or Nook?

I have not used a Kindle, but I do have a Nook color. I really like it. I haven't rooted it yet, or gone all "Wendell" on it, but it's coming.

I did buy a Sony E-reader from Randy, and I really like the display on it. It is very easy on the eyes.

Thanks, for the input! This is for my heavy reading wife and I don't want to get hit with complaints of eyestrain, etc.

I have a Kindle and just started with it. Can't speak for the Nook, tho'. I have some heartburn forking out $15 for a book from Amazon, when usually I just pick up the cheapies at thrift stores. Readability is alright as is battery life. This was a gift, if I had my druthers I would get a tablet. The Samsung XOOM looks pretty cool. Good lUck

Thanks. I'm hoping to steer her toward the library downloads, instead of buying books.

I have a kindle as does my mother, my aunt, both daughters........

Don't worry about the cost of books....
There are a LOT of free books out there...

Something like 85% of all Amazon books are less than Three Dollars. I think over 50% are free...

there are always specials and what not on current books too...

I also have a tablet... The Kindle is much better for reading than the tablet... It has a PURPOSE and does it well.

I've been a nook user since they came out two years ago. My wife upgraded me for my birthday last year to the nook color. I'm a huge fan of the nook.

I saw the simple nook for $69 at B&N over thanksgiving and would be very tempted to get that for a first time user. I'm spoiled by the color one and the net access, but my 15 yr old daughter now has my old nook and is getting used to it. It's handy for english class and the classics they need to read. (all free from google or gutenberg)

i have yet to buy a book, even after almost two years of daily reading. I was a big library user previously and get most of my books from there, that was one reason i went nook! At the time they were the only pdf readers, and it ran/runs an adobe reader, both of which are available from the library.

As for readability, the nook color is back lit which is great for night time reading. The old nook was e-ink which was great for reading outside and extended battery life.

But, as for a kindle, why do you want a full time keyboard on a "book"? I find it rather unwieldy compared to a nook....

My wife has a kindle as well. just the basic black & white. It has a great display. I think it's called 'e-ink' which you want for a lot of reading. (Maybe the other ereaders have that technology as well). It is a much nicer read than my 7" tablet. (Although I like my tablet, I vote for a kindle or other e-ink reader)

I wound up getting the Kindle Touch, w/o the ads, for her. All she will do with it is read. If it was for me, I'd have to have the Nook Color, Kindle Fire, or an Ipad.

Thanks for taking the time to provide input.

I have a nook and love it. In all honesty, there's not a dimes worth of differance between a Nook and a Kindle as far as the reading screen goes. Remember that you can change the text size and font VERY easily on both readers, so any eye strain will be self-induced.
The color versions of both readers are really nice and allow you to enjoy magazines and newspapers on them.
The books and magazine subscriptions are WAY less than the hard copies. Most new paperbacks run $17-$25 eacm, my ecopies average $7.50 each. Readers digest at Walmart is almost $8 a copy, on the ereaders is $1.99 a month.
What you need to do is look at both sites and see which one carries the most of the books she likes, then get that company's ereader.

If you run a free Kindle app on a rooted Nook Color, you don't have to choose.
